Lessons From My Dead Mother
Love, loss, and the stories they left behind.
A collection of lessons from daughters learning to live in a world without their mothers.
Lessons From my dead mother began as a way for me to process my own grief. After losing my mom, I found myself holding onto memories that would appear unexpectedly—through laughter, old stories, certain foods, random phrases, and the small moments that somehow still carried her presence.
What started as a personal outlet slowly became something much bigger. I realized I might not be the only daughter searching for ways to hold onto the people we love while learning how to live without them.
This project is a collection of memories, lessons, reflections, and reminders that grief doesn’t only live in sadness. Sometimes it lives in humor, warmth, habits, and the little signs that make us stop and think, “That was her.”
My hope is that anyone who finds their way here feels a little less alone. That through the heaviness of loss, they also find moments to laugh, reflect, remember, and appreciate the beautiful little things that remind us they are still with us.
With love, Rickie

About the author
Hi, I’m Rickie
I’m a daughter, a mom, a storyteller, and someone who has spent years trying to understand what it means to continue loving someone after they’re gone.
Some of my strongest memories of my mom aren’t the big life moments. They’re the little things—the foods she loved, the phrases she repeated, the random stories that somehow became family history, and the moments that still make me laugh years later.
Lessons From my dead mother became a place for me to hold onto those memories and explore the strange, beautiful ways grief continues to evolve over time.
I created this space in hopes that others might find pieces of themselves here too.
